Thanjam
Thanjam is a home and refuge center for women in distress and emotional problems. Majority of them are mentally disturbed and are also victims of sexual abuse. These women are being identified and rescued by our volunteers. Thanjam takes care of only destitute women. At times when a patient is rescued from the street their identity will not be known. But after treatment and care when they are able to give details about their background the patients will be restored back to their family.

There are occasions where patients are referred from other states by similar NGOs because they cannot speak the same language of the particular patient and this will make rehabilitation difficult. Many NGO’s do not have infrastructure for long term care and hence they refer the patients to us for further management and care. The following are the few NGOs, to name a few, who occasionally send patients for our care
  • Love Home of Ernakulam, Kerala
  • Divyarakshalayam of Thodupuzha, Kerala
  • Banyan, Chennai

The specialty of this house is that it provides care for mentally challenged women who are also found to be HIV positive. At present there are 31 such patients in this home. All the patients are being provided with medical and psychiatric treatment, and for the terminally sick, palliative care is also been provided.

So far 343 patients have been rehabilitated and restored back to their families. In Tamilnadu this is the only unique facility available for mentally challenged HIV+ve patients.
