Short stay home for women-in-distress. 

This short stay home is situated in Thiruverkadu and at any given time there will be 20 to 30 residents in this unit. Two full time volunteers provide their service in looking after the residents.

Sumaithangi is basically an information, guidance, counselling and short stay center for women in distress. In our society even though woman take an active role in every field, quite often they are being ill treated, exploited and physically abused.

Guidance and counseling are given to help them overcome their psychological and physical trauma and wherever possible be reunited with their families. Necessary legal and medical assistance are also provided free of cost. A tailoring unit attached to this center provides training, with a view of making these women self-reliant. A number of women use this facility before sorting out their problems and going back to their family. The duration of stay would vary from 15 days to 3 months.
