Shanthi Vanam is a unit, which is exclusively for the last twenty years taking care of mentally challenged women, who are found wandering on the streets. Accomplishment in this field is that we were able to unite more than 1200 patients back to their families. Most of them are leading trouble free life, but with continued medication. Each patient who finds her way back home is an example of how much transformation our care can bring. Shanthi Vanam is a home where they are accepted, treated, trained, rehabilitated and restored back to family life.
Several women are leading a fairly normal life as the families have accepted them based on the counseling & guidance provided by our team. Special emphasis is being given towards continuing medicines and reporting once in 3 months about their mental health status.
The less fortunate ones who are disowned and not accepted by the family or the family details given to us are inadequate to trace, are motivated to take up rehab programmes/vocational trainings, and become helpers or attending work which does not involve mental strain.
Shanthi Vanam maintains a full-fledged horticulture and landscape unit where the patients are being trained in horticultural activities. This rehab programme is quite successful and the patients are becoming highly productive.
