Sri Gayathri Medical Mission & Research Foundation
(A Project of Udavum Karangal, managed by Sri Gayathri Medical Mission Trust)

The Proposed Hospital is meant for :
  1. The poor section of community who are cared and nursed at our Udavum Karangal units and numbering about 2000.
  2. The villagers residing in and around Thiruverkadu: There are 32 villages and the total number of inhabitants in these villages are around 50000 in number

Who are the main beneficiaries?

  • Women and children
  • Aged people
  • Psychiatric patients

Why Women & children:

In most of the community health care for women is not given importance because man is considered as the breadwinner of a family, and hence his health care gets priority. But women need a special medical care due to the unique medical problems faced by them.

The healthy children, free from any disease are the assets of a country. Therefore a perfect pediatric care unit is the need of the day.

Why old people:

In the modern society where the Indian culture of joint family system is giving way to nuclear family system, people are becoming more selfish.

As the longevity of humans has increased, the population of old people has also increased. The physical and mental problems of the elderly are also on the rise. Therefore a medical care system to take care of their various problems is badly needed. There is no separate health care system to cater to the need of old age people in South India and even if they are available they are beyond the reach of an average individual.

What is the aim of the proposed hospital:

To offer 24 hours of high quality service with humanitarian touch to the needy.

75 bed hospital to begin with:

  • Unit for elderly

Other units:

  • Surgical Unit
  • Psychiatric
  • Ophthalmology Unit
  • ENT Unit

  • Gastro-entrology
  • Neurology

Ancillaries

  • A full fledged laboratory to be established
  • A pharmacy to cater to the urgent need of in-patients
  • Kitchen for preparing food for patients according to the instruction of dietician.
  • A dietician & Nutrition specialist

Financial aspect:

The Total cost of the entire project is estimated to be approximately 4.15 crores INR (850,000 US $) and could be split into following manner.

(INR)
Phase I  25 lakhs
Phase II  60 lakhs
Phase III 80 lakhs
Phase IV 2.50 crores
4.15 crores

A 3-˝ acre of land has been procured already for this project the land cost being 65 lakhs INR which has to be deducted from the total project cost. Hence the required funds are 3.5 crores INR (750,000 US$)

For fundraising, appeals will be sent to well-wishers, philanthropists, trusts and charities to raise as much resources as possible towards this project. Donors can sponsor medical equipment, ambulances, wards and other structures where their names will be prominently displayed.

Note :

  • X-ray and lab equipment could be raised by corporate sponsorship.
  • 2 ambulances could also be raised as contribution from banks.
  • 5 computers could be raised by computer software groups.
  • Drugs from pharmaceutical companies.

Conclusion:

This hospital project needs about 4 crores of Indian rupees over a span of 3 years. The recurring expenditure would be taken care by the centre by raising local funds towards the salary of staff and transportation and administrative expenses.

The hospital would extend the medical facilities and a nominal charge would be collected as a sign of their participation, specialized care will also be provided to all the deserving and deprived people of the village. There would be minor modification and changes based on the practical implementation of the project.
The donor agency could visit and assess the development of the hospital at any stage and provide us with proper guidance if necessary.
