Gokulam is a home away home for parentless children The very concept is that children should not miss all the love and care they would have got had they been in a family. We strongly believe that providing food and shelter is not enough for children. Their biological and emotional needs are also to be understood and taken care of for their overall development.
A child being brought to an orphanage begins his/her life with broken emotional background and hence they need to be assisted, guided and helped to bring back to normalcy and boost their overall personality development.
In this children’s village there are 21 individual houses each housing 10 to 15 children under the loving care and guidance of a house-mother who looks after carefully the personal needs of each child. Each house has children of different ages ranging from six years to eighteen years. This is to encourage sibling relationship and to cultivate responsibility normally seen in families. The house mothers are being carefully selected giving priority to their motherly instincts and managing capabilities. There are 18 house mothers and three male care takers to manage these twenty one houses. Apart from the above there are six multipurpose workers and one stand by house mother.
All the children in Gokulam are studying, majority of them in school and a few who have completed schooling are doing vocational training. Three of them are pursuing their studies in college. Children in Gokulam are also being trained in computer skills, spoken English, fine arts, yoga and meditation. All the religious functions and celebrations are given importance and children are encouraged to know more about its values.
