Udavum Karangal gives foremost importance towards education of the children. Udavum Karangal believes that only good education can make the children confident and self-reliable. With this in mind
Ramakrishna Vidya Niketan was started in 1997 with about 150 children. The school imparts value based education not only to our resident children but also to children belonging to economically weak families in and around Thiruverkadu. More community children started seeking admission. Ramakrishna Vidya Niketan is a boon for the community as the nearby Government school doesn’t have infrastructure and the private schools are beyond the reach of the villagers Ramakrishna Vidya Niketan was approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu and obtained permission to start Higher Secondary classes in 1999. Today the strength of the school is 1700 students!
Similar circumstances prompted us starting a primary school in Coimbatore named
Ramakrishna Vidya Mandir. At present the strength of the school is around 500 children.
Getting a good social worker is a hard task for any NGO, as most of the students come out of the premier institutions would look for a corporate job rather than serving for NGOs. This has prompted to think in line of starting a school for social work for the community children who completes Higher Secondary. The construction of such an institution
“Chennai School of Social Work” is under way. Udavum Karangal is hopeful of bringing out quality social workers who will be interested in working for NGOs.
