Udavum Karangal believes that a dignified life and death is every human beings right. But a number of people are denied of a dignified death either because of poverty or by the insensitivity of off-springs. The aged or terminally ill are left to look after themselves in the fag end of their life and invariably these people breath their last in some corner of the streets.
Udavum Karangal on receipt of information about such incidents takes the body to cremation ground and cremates by performing due last rights. Similarly unclaimed bodies kept the in hospital mortuaries are also collected and cremated. Udavum Karangal’s ambulance service is also available for the economically weaker section of people on their emergencies.
The ambulance is also used for transporting accident victims and for taking our inmates to hospitals.
Within a few hours after tsunami struck, Udavum Karangal deployed its 5 Ambulances along with 15 volunteers and ferried about 100 dead bodies to the mortuaries in the hospitals for a couple of days and injured were admitted in the hospitals.
The affected people along with their belongings were also transported to the common shelters like schools, institutions, temples churches and community halls.
