Hers is a saying in Tamil,
Kalyanathai panni paar,
veettai katti paar which means finding
a decent groom and getting a girl married as well as constructing ones dream house,
both are difficult tasks. The difficulties multiply when the girl is parentless
and lives in an orphanage.
But Udavum Karangal to its credit has, so far,
married off twenty six girls and two boys.
On March 10th the residents of Udavum Karangal were busy with the arrangement for the twenty-nineth marriage. The atmosphere was that of a typical middle class marriage house. Happiness writ large on everyones face! They had all the reasons to be happy, Lakshmi, one of the girls brought up at Udavum Karangal since childhood was getting married.
All the twenty-eight couples (girls and boys who got married earlier) had come with their children to attend the marriage of Lakshmi.
It was a simple ceremony conducted at the Mahamariamman temple inside the Shanthivanam campus. The groom Mr.Jaikumar (Physiotherapist in Apollo Hospital) and his family members arrived as scheduled around 7 am and they were greeted formally.
